UTKIN Oleksandr Ivanovych (26.02.1937), historian, doctor of historical sciences (1994), professor (2004), academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and the Aerospace Academy of Ukraine (1997) , chief researcher of the Archives Sector Institute of History of Agrarian Science, Education and Technology of the National National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences

Graduated from the Kyiv Technical School of Railway Transport. During 1956-1959, he served in the Soviet Army. In 1966, he graduated from the Moscow State Historical and Archival Institute with a major in history, in 1969–1972 – postgraduate studies at the Department of History at the Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute named after O. Gorky. In 1994, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Information activity of political, public and religious organizations of the Ukrainian diaspora in Western countries". (1945–1991).

After completing postgraduate studies, he worked as the head of the Department of the Council for Religious Affairs under the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR (1972–1980); head of the department of the Academy of Social Sciences (1980–1991); leading researcher of the Institute of National and Political Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1991–1996); chief consultant of the department of the National Institute of Strategic Studies (1996–2000). Since 2001 – Head of the History Department of the International Solomon University. Since September 2013 – head of the military history department of the National Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies and World History.

Since December 2014 – chief researcher of the archive sector of the Institute of the History of Science, Education and Technology of the National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Member of the specialized academic council D 26.373.01 at the National National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences for the defense of dissertations for obtaining the scientific degree of doctor and candidate of historical sciences in the specialty 07.00.07 – history of science and technology (historical sciences).

The author of more than 400 scientific and scientific-methodological works, including a number of monographs and training manuals. Member of the specialized academic council of the Institute of Philosophy named after H. Skovorody of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

For his contribution to historical science, he was awarded the prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and received the "Plato Gold Medal". Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Honored with Soviet, Ukrainian, church and Cossack awards, etc.
