In the XXI century. agriculture, making up a significant share of the economy of Ukraine, continues to play a leading role, and is not only a guarantor of food security, but also of the country's statehood in general. One of the fundamental components of the further development of this process is information and library support for scientific support of agro-industrial production. In Ukraine, the coordination of these functions, and especially their methodological content, is entrusted to theNational Scientific Agricultural Library of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NNSGB NAAS).

Main goal NNSGB NAAS – providing every resident of Ukraine with the possibility of free access to national and global information resources on agricultural and forestry topics.

After Ukraine gained independence, the library actively participated in the representation of information and library activities at the international level, strengthening the authority of the young state and promoting its best assets in the field of agricultural science.

The path to the modern state-wide well-deserved recognition of the library in the professional environment of Ukraine and the world began in 1998, when the library received the status of a scientific research institution and joined the Department of Regional Centers of APV of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Since then, the priorities in its activities have changed qualitatively. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the structure was reorganized for the scientific institution of category "A". The following were developed and approved: "Concept of Informatization of Libraries of Ukraine", approved by the Profile Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; "Concept of informatization of agricultural libraries of Ukraine", adopted by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences; about 100 normative and regulatory documents for 210 methodologically subordinated libraries of industry research institutions and educational institutions. The NNSGB NAAS has transformed into a powerful, well-equipped industry information center recognized in Ukraine and beyond, and has become a full-fledged specialized research institution. According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 29, 2003, the library received the status of "state", and in 2012, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated December 14, 2012 No. 700/2012 – "national".

Currently, the NNSGB of the National Academy of Sciences – leading special library of national importance; branch library-depository, a powerful scientific and information center for the formation of the branch segment of agrarian issues, as a component in the information space of Ukraine. The document and information potential is represented by a fund of more than one million in 32 languages ​​from 59 countries of the world.

NNSGB NAAS is a participant in fundamental and applied scientific research processes of NAAS through the services of registration of scientific research results.

Currently, the institution employs 78 employees (10 doctors and 22 candidates of sciences), before whom a circle of priority directions has been outlined, namely:

  • collection and preservation of book funds, heritage of the past;
  • formation of national industry information content;
  • ensuring free access for all categories of users to domestic and global information and library resources;
  • scientific information and documentary support for the development of agricultural science and production;
  • realization of professional information and library service (local access, MBA, E-service, etc.);
  • publishing activity;
  • coordination of activities of the network of agricultural libraries of Ukraine;
  • training of highly qualified scientific personnel through postgraduate and doctoral studies in historical disciplines (including training of foreign citizens);
  • retraining and advanced training of library and information personnel with certification;
  • integration of national industry information into the global information space.

In addition to the above aspects of activity, the National Library of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as a sectoral depository of agricultural and forestry literature through the Institute of the History of Agrarian Science, Education and Technology, today represents the results of research in 13 biobibliographic series: "Academicians of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine" (1998) - 82 books; "Biobibliography of Agrarian Scientists of Ukraine" (1998) - 84 books; "Agrarian Science of Ukraine in Persons, Documents, Bibliography" (2001) - 133 books; "Scientific Historical and Bibliographic Readings" (2001) - 32 books; "Scientific and Auxiliary Retrospective Bibliographic, Biobibliographic Indexes" (2001) - 95 books; "Famous Natural Scientists and Educators of Ukraine" (2004) - 14 books; "Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine" (2005) - 19 books; "Land Management Science" (2005) - 1 book; "Academicians and Corresponding Members of the NAS of Ukraine for Agriculture" (2007) - 2 books; "Foreign Members of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine" (2009) - 1 book; "Foreign Agricultural Books in the Funds of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine and Research Institutions and Higher Educational Institutions of Agricultural Profile" (2009) - 13 books; "Information and Bibliographic Resources for Agro-Industrial Production of Ukraine" (2013) - 3 books; "Biobibliography of figures of science, education, and culture of Ukraine" (2014) – 3 books.

The Institute of the History of Agrarian Science, Education and Technology created at the NNSGB of the National Academy of Sciences based on the results of the conducted research systematically and consistently supports the implementation of the program perpetuation of outstanding figures of scientists and institutions, which glorified Ukraine in word and deed on a global scale through the holding of scientific meetings: conferences, scientific readings, round tables, representations in the mass media and the opening of memorial plaques, signs, etc. in their honor.

In order to publicize the conducted research on historical topics, a scientific publication was launched in 2006 – electronic interdepartmental thematic scientific collection "History of science and biography"; (access mode: http://inb.dnsgb.com.ua/, the presence of which to some extent corresponds to the main function of our institutions for information-library support of the scientific support of APR. In addition, the Library prepares and publishes other diverse periodical and continuing scientific publications. In particular, 75 issues of the only publication of this type in Ukraine, the abstract journal "Agro-industrial complex of Ukraine" and its special issues, which are intended to meet the needs of commodity producers of industrial products of various forms of ownership; 33 issues of the "Bulletin of the NNSGB NAAS" and 4 issues of the "Calendar of Significant and Memorable Dates in the History of Agricultural Science of Ukraine", started in 2013, etc.< /p>

NNSGB NAAS – a scientific and methodical center for 210 library institutions of the agricultural profile of Ukraine. These are libraries of research institutes, research stations, universities of I-IV levels of accreditation, secondary special educational institutions. For employees of network libraries, seminars, conferences, internships are systematically held, instructional and regulatory documentation, methodical materials are developed, practical and consulting assistance is provided. All the mentioned materials are made public through issues of the "Bulletin of the NNSGB of the National Academy of Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences".

An important component of the activity of the NNSGB of the National Academy of Sciences is the innovative climate in the library – an indispensable condition for its development, which is connected with new technologies aimed at improving the quality and comfort of users.

The basis of mutual relations is a broad representation of common cultural values ​​in the form of books, conducting scientific events - presentations, round tables, etc.

  • scientific and educational institutions - State University of Agriculture in Warsaw (Szkoła Główna Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego); Warsaw University of Economics (Szkoła Główna Handlowa w Warszawie); University (Zagreb); Faculty of Agriculture (Croatia); Czech University (Prague); central library of the University of Agricultural Science, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine (Cluj-Napoca, Romania).

An important place in the activity of the National Institute of Natural Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences is occupied by cooperation with Ukrainian universities of agrarian profile, regarding the conduct of joint historical research through the creation of Centers for the History of Natural Science. In particular, a fruitful commonwealth unites the NNSGB NAAS with the Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University named after Hryhoriya Skovorody», Poltava State Agrarian Academy, National University of Water Management and Nature Management (Rivne), Uman National University of Horticulture of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine, Zhytomyr National Agroecological University, etc.

Cooperation with the National Pedagogical University named after M.P. Drahomanov and the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine, regarding the joint publication of the journal "Herald of Agrarian History"; Glukhiv National Pedagogical University named after O. Dovzhenka – publication of the collection "Historical Studies of Social Progress".

Every year, the library holds scientific and practical conferences of young scientists and specialists "History of Education, Science and Technology of Ukraine", round tables, scientific readings, scientific and practical seminars, etc.

The library's greatest asset will always be its employees – excellent specialists in their field. Fame was brought to the institution in different periods of its existence by its helmsmen: G. Koch (1917-1918), V.A. Lebedynskyi, A. Lytvynenko (1921-1927), D.S. Bibko (1927-1931), G.A. Melnyk (1932–?), O.F. Korneev (1935–1964), ex. worker of culture of the Ukrainian SSR R.Y. Tselinsky (1964–1998), doctor of science, professor M.S. Slobodianyk (1998–2000), academician of NAAS V.A. Vergunov (2000–present time).

In the annals of the history of our library, the names of scientists who, until the last days of their lives, contributed to the establishment and development of the library's activities will forever remain, namely: Doctor of Science, Prof. </p align="justify"> strong>V.P.
